Why I Always Have an Aloe Vera Plant at Home
If I could recommend just one houseplant to keep at home, Aloe Vera would be high on my list. I've had an Aloe Vera plant in my house for more than 20 years, and it's still one of my favourites.
Not only do I love how it looks, but I also enjoy having it on hand for everyday use. I also choose several personal care products that contain Aloe Vera, including toothpaste, deodorant, lip balm and shampoo.
Using Fresh Aloe Vera Gel
One of the reasons Aloe Vera is so popular is the clear gel found inside its thick leaves.
Many people like to apply the fresh gel to the skin after minor everyday mishaps, such as small cuts, minor burns or sun-exposed skin, because it feels naturally cool and soothing.
If you decide to use fresh Aloe Vera gel, it's sensible to test a small area of skin first, as some people can be sensitive to it.
My Personal Experience
I also enjoy using fresh Aloe Vera gel as part of my skincare routine.
When my skin feels irritated or I occasionally get a breakout, I like to apply a small amount of the fresh gel. Personally, I find it feels refreshing and calming, although everyone's skin is different and results can vary.
Why I Love Growing Aloe Vera
One of the best things about Aloe Vera is how easy it is to care for.
It doesn't need frequent watering and is well suited to growing indoors in a bright spot. In fact, it's one of the easiest houseplants I've ever owned.
Although houseplants can make a room feel fresher and more inviting, it's worth remembering that they shouldn't be relied upon to improve indoor air quality in the home.
Simple Care Tips
Place your Aloe Vera somewhere bright with plenty of indirect sunlight.
Allow the soil to dry out between watering.
Avoid leaving the plant sitting in water.
Use a pot with good drainage.
Water less during the winter months.
Final Thoughts
For me, Aloe Vera is one of those plants that combines beauty with practicality. It's easy to grow, requires very little attention and has been a favourite in my home for many years.
Whether you enjoy it simply as a houseplant or like keeping it nearby for occasional skincare use, it's a wonderful addition to any home.
Do you have an Aloe Vera plant? I'd love to hear how long you've had yours and whether you have any favourite care tips to share.
