Growing Microgreens

What are Microgreens?

Microgreens are the young, tender seedlings of edible plants, harvested just as they sprout their first true leaves, typically 6-10 days after planting. These tiny greens, measuring 1–3 inches tall, pack in so much flavour, colour and nutrition, making them a favourite for home cooks, health enthusiasts and chefs. Grown from seeds of vegetables, herbs, or even some grains, microgreens offer a burst of taste - from spicy radish to sweet pea shoots - in a fraction of the space and time required for traditional gardening.

Mixture of different Microgreens

Unlike sprouts, which are germinated in water and eaten root and all within days, microgreens are grown in soil or a medium like coconut coir and harvested above the root. This gives them a cleaner, more robust flavour and texture. Compared to baby greens like vegetables, which grow larger and take weeks longer, microgreens are quicker and more concentrated in taste, perfect for adding a fresh, gourmet touch to any dish. The fact that you can transform a handful of seeds into a lush crop in only a week or two, make them very popular with the grower.

These can be added to sandwiches, salads, soups or main meals
